EN: Researcher and journalist Karla Freire proposes an updated interpretation of the rich and diverse reggae music scene in São Luís. Reflecting on middle-class participation to reggae dances she drafts a kind of geopolitics of the public spaces, where she introduces the thought-provoking notion of “reggae in high heels”. The book also introduces the differentiation between roots reggae parties and “robozinho” reggae dances, a neologism used by the author to designate the digitalised reggae music that began to consolidate in São Luís in the 2000s.

Employing an anthropological approach and supported by over 60 rare still photographs of 1980s and 90s local reggae parties and patrons (by photographer Jorrimar de Sousa and others), the author provides a general framework to understand the specificities of reggae music in Maranhão in the early 2010s. At the same time, she acknowledges that the fragmentation of the local reggae music history makes  an ominicomprehensive analysis impossible.

Traz também a diferenciação entre os bailes de reggae roots e os bailes de reggae robozinho, neologismo usado pela autora para designar o reggae digital que começara a consolidar-se em São Luís nos anos 2000.

A partir de uma abordagem antropológica e com o auxílio de mais de 60 fotos raras de festas e personagens do reggae local dos anos 1980 e 1990, de fotógrafos como Jorrimar de Sousa, Karla proporciona em seu texto, nas especificidades do reggae no Maranhão, um quadro geral deste fenômeno no início dos anos 2010, ao mesmo tempo que atesta uma história fragmentada do gênero muiscal no estado que impossibilita análises totalizantes.
