EN: This text presents a vigorous defense of the African roots in the culture of the Colombian Caribbean as reflected in the picotero culture and music scene more in general. Contreras makes use of an academic language frequently overshadowed by poetic and literary licenses that refresh and give the story an inspiring, mystical feeling. The text makes a strong point expressed with great rhetorical force. However, some of the data sustaining the analysis might need further corroboration.

ES: Este relato presenta una vigorosa defensa de la raíz africana en la cultura del Caribe colombiano y en especial en el ambiente picotero y musical. Contreras hace uso de un lenguaje academicista que se ve eclipsado frecuentemente por licencias poéticas y literarias que refrescan y le dan un aire místico a la historia. El texto tiene abundantes argumentos, fundamentados en datos con mucha fuerza retórica, sin embargo vale la pena corroborar algunos de ellos.
