Il s’appuie sur une centaine d’interviews pour retracer le parcours des groupes, musiciens, sound systems mais aussi de disquaires et de radios qui ont accompagné l’émergence du reggae. C’est une source d’informations précieuses, notamment sur les acteurs et le contexte de naissance des premiers sound systems français dans les années 1980 autour de la pratique du toasting (talk over – improvisation verbales) et de ceux qui leur succèdent dans les années 1990 et 2000 dans le mouvement raggamuffin jusqu’à l’adoption des sound clash.
