EN: The author aims to show how the population of the Colombian Caribbean, especially in Cartagena and Barranquilla, has been part of socio-artifactual and socio-technical networks of leasure and music. Historically, the main technological actors within these networks have been the drum -until the beginning of the 20th century-, the jukebox and the radio – in the first half of the 20th century – and especially the picó, from the seconf half of the 20th century to the present. According to the author, the drum and the picó are not only powerful artifacts-agents within these socio-technical networks in the way that STS (Science and Technology Studies) researchers frame it, but they are also intensely loaded with social, emotional and affective values.

ES: El autor trata de mostrar cómo la población del Caribe colombiano, y, hoy en día, sobre todo en Cartagena y Barranquilla, ha hecho parte de manera importante de redes socio artefactuales y sociotécnicas festivas y musicales, entre cuyos actores tecnologicos se destacan como cosas poderosas el tambor -hasta comienzos del siglo XX-, vitrolas y radios -en la primera mitad del siglo XX y especialmente los picós, desde esa época hasta la actualidad. Para el autor el tambor y el picó no son solo potentes artefactos-agentes dentro de redes sociotécnicas a la manera en que lo plantean los investigadores de los ECT (Estudios de Ciencia y Tecnología), sino que son también agentes cargados de impetuosas valencias sociales, emotivas y afectivas.
